Small Business Health Insurance Reimbursement: Annual Report 2017

Health reimbursement plan: An arrangement in which businesses set aside a monthly allowance that employees can use toward individual health insurance. Employees request reimbursement for their health expenses, and businesses pay the requested amount, up to the maximum monthly allowance defined in formal plan documents. Beginning in 2017, the most popular health reimbursement plan is the Small Business Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA). The monthly benefit a company offers to employees. Amounts may vary by family status (self only or family). If employees don’t utilize their full allowance during the plan year, unused funds stay with the company.
