Merchants look ahead to Small Business Saturday

Black Friday may be the biggest and busiest shopping day of the year, but area merchants and chamber of commerce directors are hoping people save some of their money to shop local. With that in mind, nationally recognized Small Business Saturday was created to promote the importance of supporting area merchants and expanding one’s holiday gift giving horizons. “We hope people will shop small, think smaller and be more conscious of their purchases,” Amesbury Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kassandra Gove said earlier this week. In an effort to do just that, Gove said she and others will once again be standing in Market Square handing out tote bags and other items to people who show them items they bought locally. Each person who does that, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, will be entered in a drawing to win a $100 American Express gift card.
